Answers to the Questions Homeowners Ask Most

Get to know the ins and outs of your home standby generator.

A home standby generator is a backup power source that operates whether you are home or away.

Within seconds of sensing a weather or winter power outage, the generator will automatically kick on and supply power to your home. Imagine a generac generator connected to a house. After utility power returns, the generator shuts itself off and waits for the next outage, making them useful tools in hurricane preparation.

It operates on natural gas or liquid propane gas and sits outside just like a central air conditioning unit.

Refueling Not Necessary- Your Generac home backup generator runs on your existing natural gas or LP fuel supply.

There are many factors that impact the generator sizing and power needs for your home, including how often you expect to have a home power outage. An authorized Generac dealer can best determine which home standby generator will be best for your home, and you can request a free quote, which includes sizing options and price.

The average life expectancy of a Generac whole house standby generator is around 15 years of operation under normal emergency standby conditions.

Although the generator may have relatively low hours on the engine, the other components lose reliability in them. Just like a classic car, it can be a Sunday driver but not recommended in an emergency situation.

Generac whole home generators can be fueled by either Natural Gas or Propane.

No. The generator fuel costs would be much more expensive than buying power from the utility company since their cost to produce electricity is divided among thousands of customers. In addition, whole home generators are not intended to provide continuous power – i.e. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Our packages vary based on model size and specific installation needs at your home. In general packages range from $9,500 – $19,500.
